The Mid-Autumn Festival: Often equated to the western notion of Thanksgiving, the Mid-Autumn Festival is a time for family reunions and paying gratitude. Falling on the 15th day of the 8th month of the Chinese lunar calendar, it is also known as the Moon Festival, as it celebrates the roundest and brightest moon of the year. Central to this celebration is the Mooncake, a delectable pastry filled with sweet fillings like red bean or lotus seed paste. Sharing these treats symbolizes unity and togetherness.
: October 1st marks the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949. It's a day filled with parades, fireworks, and nationwide celebrations. The holiday is an opportunity for Chinese citizens to take a break and reflect on the country's journey and achievements. Large scale events in Beijing, especially around Tiananmen Square, are the highlight of the celebrations, capturing the spirit of unity, progress, and national pride.
